ADSE Mission Statement

The Alliance for Diversity in Science and Engineering is a nationally recognized undergraduate and graduate student organization at the University of Oregon that serves to provide professional development opportunities for underrepresented minorities in STEM and allies as well as to disseminate scientific knowledge to the greater Oregon community.  The following are a few events that ADSE has hosted in the past and will host in the future:

  • Diversity Lecture Series:  A series of STEM professional speakers from underrepresented backgrounds that talk about their work (research, job, etc.) followed by another presentation on their work to increase and support diversity, equity, inclusion efforts at their current and past institutions.

  • Young Researchers Conference: An annual conference between all national chapters hosted by one chapter per year that welcomes all undergraduate student to present their research findings.

  • Outreach: We strive to connect with the greater Oregon community by exposing URM communities to science. We are currently planning a community college event in collaboration with the University of Oregon's Undergraduate Research Symposium. We are also in the midst of reaching out to the Eugene Science Center to find volunteer opportunities to perform there.

  • Science Communication Workshop Series: In collaboration with The Center for Science Communications Research through the School of Journalism, we host a series of workshops related to science communication for the public to attend and learn from.
